Why not have a luau at home? There are alot of ways you can throw a Hawaiian themed party at home, whether its summer or winter, spring or fall. Indoors or out. You can do it up really big or tone it down and just have a touch of the islands. It's up to you and your imagination. I've put together a number of ideas for you on how to throw a luau. So the next time you want to have a party, make it a luau. It's fun and with a little imagination, it'll be the talk of all your friends and family for years to come. Remember! This is a casual event. No age barriers and mix your crowd. Lots of tropical flowers prints. The more colorful the better. Soothing melodic tunes in the background. Lots of tropical flowers and tropical plants. Shells and sand add a nice touch too. Some tropical incense for the smell of coconut or jasmine. Ask a friend to dress in a hula skirt and offer pupus (hor'doerves) and exotic drinks to your guests. Torches at nite add to the scene as well. ![]() You can always buy your invitations at a Hallmark Store or a Party Store. Or even better, make them yourself. Just think 'The Tropics'. Use flower, palm tree or shell stickers. Bright colors too! Just make sure you tell your guests to dress 'Island Style'. ![]() Your decorations can be anything your imagination allows them to be. You can visit your local Party Store for some ideas. Have flowers everywhere, the islands are full of colorful, aromatic flowers. So use any flower you want. Silk flowers would also be a nice touch for arrangements or leis for your guests. And you can use them after the party as well. Make centerpieces using pineapples, mangos, papayas, coconuts and bananas. Tableclothes of brightly colored patterns. Spread brightly colored pieces of material over tables and chairs. Use vines, ivy or ferns to add to the lQQk. Hang fish netting up also with plastic lobster or plastic crabs in it. Fill baskets with shells or flowers or both. Float candles in bowls of colored water or in a pool. If you don't have a pool, purchase a kiddie pool and camouflage it in chicken wire and cover the wire with leaves and plants. Rent some Red and Blue macaws for the day! If you can't rent them, then get a cassette of bird songs and stick it up in a tree to play over and over. Use big shells or wooden bowls as serving dishes. And dont't forget the little bamboo umbrellas for your beverages. If you really want to entertain your crowd, check your local listings for any groups that might perform the Hula. Nothing brings a luau to that special high than the dances of Polynesia. However, if your area doesn't offer this sort of thing, find some smooth easy listening music to set the scene. Also some sounds of the ocean would be a great mood setter.
