Set The Scene:
Remember!
This is a casual event. No age barriers and mix your crowd.
Lots of tropical flowers prints. The more colorful the better.
Soothing melodic tunes in the background.
Lots of tropical flowers and tropical plants.
Shells and sand add a nice touch too.
Some tropical incense for the smell of coconut or jasmine.
Ask a friend to dress in a hula skirt and offer pupus (hor'doerves)
and exotic drinks to your guests. Torches at nite add to the scene as well.

Enjoy!!

Invitations:
You can always buy your invitations at a Hallmark Store or a Party Store.
Or even better, make them yourself.
Just think 'The Tropics'.
Use flower, palm tree or shell stickers. Bright colors too!
Just make sure you tell your guests to dress 'Island Style'.

Decorations:
Your decorations can be anything your imagination allows them to be.
You can visit your local Party Store for some ideas.
Have flowers everywhere, the islands are full of colorful, aromatic flowers.
So use any flower you want. Silk flowers would also be a nice touch for
arrangements or leis for your guests.
And you can use them after the party as well.
Make centerpieces using pineapples, mangos, papayas, coconuts and bananas.
Tableclothes of brightly colored patterns.
Spread brightly colored pieces of material over tables and chairs.
Use vines, ivy or ferns to add to the lQQk.
Hang fish netting up also with plastic lobster or plastic crabs in it.
Fill baskets with shells or flowers or both.
Float candles in bowls of colored water or in a pool.
If you don't have a pool, purchase a kiddie pool and camouflage it in
chicken wire and cover the wire with leaves and plants.
Rent some Red and Blue macaws for the day!
If you can't rent them, then get a cassette of bird songs and stick it
up in a tree to play over and over.
Use big shells or wooden bowls as serving dishes.
And dont't forget the little bamboo umbrellas for your beverages.
And if you really want to go all out order real tropical flowers or plants:

Party City
Tropical Flowers
Leis Of Hawaii
Hawaiian Greenhouse

Enjoy!!

Entertainment:
If you really want to entertain your crowd,
check your local listings for any groups that might perform the Hula.
Nothing brings a luau to that special high than the dances of Polynesia.
However, if your area doesn't offer this sort of thing,
find some smooth easy listening music to set the scene.
Also some sounds of the ocean would be a great mood setter.
You can also find some wonderful Hawaiian music on-line.

Hawaiian Music
Tropical Disc Music

Enjoy!!

You may also want to have some Hawaiian Videos playing for your guests.
Just to show them what it would lQQk like, if they were in the islands.
You can also rent them at your local video store.
It's a great mood setter.

Attire:
No luau would be quite right without the proper clothes.
Aloha shirts or Muu-Muus are the only way to go.
If you don't have any island style dress, ask a friend if you can
borrow something or visit your local thrift shop.
It will really put you and your guests in the island mood.

Also a fun thing to do is before your guests arrive is,
make up names tags for everyone with their Hawaiian name on it.
It will add a little authenticity to the event.
