A Day In 2004

Having the opportunity to swim with a dolphin is something you don't soon forget. It is a most amazing expereince. It is the kind of experience that makes you question your career path in life and ask yourself why didn't I become a Marine Biologist so I can spend all my waking hours with these wonderful creatures!

Luckily for me and my Left Coast Gal Pal, it became a very real experience. Definetly an experience we will never forget, cherish long into our older years, and even do again. It was one of the most amazing experiences we have ever had.

Our day started like most of our days do when we are in Hawaii. We awake to a beautiful sunrise, enjoy Kona coffee and just soak up the slow pace that surrounds us as we decide which direction our day is going to go in. However today was going to be different. We had long awaited this day. Going so far as to book this adventure months in advance so we were sure to have this amazing opportunity. While our "better halves" set up 2 video cameras and 2 digital cameras, we checked in to begin our most exciting adventure.

We are very lucky that we travel to Hawaii each year and stay at some magnificent resorts. And this year would be no different. We decided to begin our Hawaiian vacation on the The Big Island at the Hilton Waikoloa. A 62 acre fantasy resort on the Kohala coast of the Island of Hawaii. Complete with air condition trams to transport you anywhere you wish to go within the resort or slow paced boats should you have less need to hurry. Truly a fantasy resort that maintains the Hawaiian spirit as well as modern day luxury.

The morning of our Dolphin Adventure Encounter, we found our way down to the Dolphin Learning Center which is located behind the Lagoon Tower. We went over the rules of the Adventure with the wonderful friendly staff of Dolphin Quest and also decided to have the personal movie made of us while we were in the water for an additional charge. Well worth it! We were then directed over to the small beach at the Dolphin Learning Center where we would meet our trainers and begin this great day.

Once all the participants were together we all went into Dolphin Quest SEA-sational Lab for an interactive session with the staff as well as a fun way to meet and break the ice with the other participants. Once this session was over we all headed back down to the Dolphin Lagoon to meet our trainor and our Dolphin.

We were in a group of 6 people when our trainor Stephanie came to meet us and explain all the rules to us to ensure the safety of the our Dolphin and to ensure our safety as well. We then had the priviledge of meeting Kona, a 19 year old female Dolphin. She was most anxious to make our encounter fun and educational.

For the next 45 minutes, we learned all about her care and feeding. We were able to instruct her in some of her different behaviors and reward her for those good behaviors. It was an amazing time, a time we will not soon forget and a time we completly recommend to young and old alike. And when it was over we truly felt like we had made a new friend and we promised to come back and see her very soon!

I highly recommend you read this ABC report. It concerns swimming with Dolphins
outside of the USA! Something we should all be concerned with!
